We’re Growing: New Hires, New Services, New Workshop

It’s been a banner year for the agency as we barrel toward our 15th anniversary in 2025. The Workshop is growing, and so are the services we offer to client partners. The hire of two new high-level leaders has bolstered our creative, strategic, and operational firepower, and we are proud to introduce them. We now offer expanded advertising services and in-house web development and digital branding.

Derek Bishop: Copywriting & Campaigns

Derek comes to us from McGarrah-Jessee, where he served as a writer and creative director, leading creative efforts for multi-million dollar brands, including Chaco, Case Knives, Shiner, Zippo, and Yeti.

As creative director for Yeti, Derek worked on practically every facet of the brand—from campaigns to films, packaging to product launches, out-of-home to April Fools videos. His work helped turn a cooler for the hunting and fishing crowd into the beloved outdoor lifestyle brand it is today. Beneath Derek’s calm and quiet demeanor lies an inferno of unconventional, creative insight, and strategic thinking. He’s too modest to share it, but the awards and accolades his work has garnered would be hard to carry with a wheelbarrow.

When Derek’s not daydreaming for fun companies, he enjoys reading, camping, road-tripping, and wondering if sharks have any idea that Jupiter exists.

Dave Guillory: Developer & Digital Director

With backgrounds in both web development and design, Dave is a double threat. After studying computer science and design at Austin Community College and the University of Texas at Austin, he began his career as a brand designer with Sibley/Peteet Design Austin in 1999. He soon moved into development and eventually became the studio’s Interactive Design Director, where he worked on various brands, including Dell, AMD, and Texas Tech University.

In 2010, Dave formed Source Pixel Foundry, where he developed websites for a variety of creative agencies—including us. Over the years, he has developed most of Helms Workshop’s client websites, including ours. Howler Bros, The Circuit of the Americas, Chameleon Cold Brew, Lone River Ranch Water, and countless other stellar brands are marked by his elegant blend of form, function, and innovation. This year, Dave officially joined the Helms Workshop team, bringing his depth of expertise in-house. As an A-Class developer with an uncanny ability to enhance and improve design, in industry terms, Dave is a beast.

Dave loves baseball and bourbon and lives in Austin with his wife and two sons.
